Attitudes of Gratitude – The JG Group

Posted on Dec 2, 2017 in Cheryl's Shoebox Blog A wonderful night was had by all November 25th as Julie Guerrero and Dean McConkey hosted a cocktail party “Attitudes of Gratitude“ for friends and guests visiting Puerto Vallarta at Casita Vida in Emiliano Zapata. Guests were encouraged to bring a donation to support Cheryl’s Shoebox’s ongoing commitment to assist children and families in need across the bay area. A total of $3,450 pesos was raised as guests enjoyed hand made tortilla tacos , music and cheer. We cannot thank you enough for an amazing night of friends, fun, amazing taquiza and just a few cocktails. Our cup runneth over with the energy of new and returning friends sharing attitudes of gratitude. We’re happy to share that Cheryl’s Shoe Box receives $3,450 pesos from your generosity. Gracias! 3 Days of Thanks In Progreso, Lomas de Enmedio & El Satrillo

Cheryl’s Shoebox has been quite busy the last 2 weeks and we would like to give thanks to our our friends and supporters who allow us to do what we do. Over a 3 day period last week we were able to provide 240 children with gifts of socks, underwear and undershirts as well as notebooks and pencils.  Pastor Mario Stantillan and Ron Almsted of the Perota colonia who we have worked with now for several years organized 3 days of giving throughout the colonias of Progreso, Lomas de Enmedio & El Satrillo.  Singing and dancing along with a taco feast for everyone followed the distribution of the care packages.  It was wonderful to see the reaction of the kids with something as simple as underwear and socks. The JG Group Delivers with Tacos and Shoes!

Posted on Oct 23, 2017 in Cheryl's Shoebox Blog A big thank you to Julie Guerrero, Dean McConkey and the entire team at The JG Group: Vallarta Real Estate Advisors for choosing Cheryl’s Shoebox as the recipient of donations for their fabulous Taco & Cocktail Party celebrating the arrival of the Atlantis Cruise Ship on October 17th.  Guest were encouraged to donate shoes and underwear while enjoying amazing tacos & live music. A cash donation of $150 dollars, underwear for out Progresso/ Perota student project, tennis shoes for El Colorado school and shoes for the Banderas Bay Women’s Shelter were donated that evening.  Just a reminder its easy to encourage your guests to donate to any of your favorite Puerto Vallarta charities over the upcoming holiday season.      Thank you Julie and Dean for a great party and thinking of us as you celebrate. Happy 50th Chris Danner!

Chris held a 3 day birthday party June 8th – 10th  with more than 70 friends and family traveling  to  Puerto Vallarta for a celebration that will not be forgotten soon. At an event hosted at the Botanical Gardens, Chris collected more than $15,000 Pesos from auctions and collections that were then shared between Cheryl’s Shoebox and the Jardín Botánico De Vallarta. Cheryl’s Shoebox and Brighter Future Building Communities

Last week we worked with “Brighter Future Building Communities” to supply migrant farm workers and their families working in and around Punte Perala with shoes, soccer balls, and clothing. Cheryl’s shoebox donated 43 pairs of custom fit new Huaraches (sturdy leather work shoes) and about 50 pairs of used shoes. Freda Thompson donated new clothing and soccer balls and Tammy Carruthers Prust from Nacho Daddy Restaurant supplied new underwear and clothing. A great community effort by all! Fútbol Shoe Fun!

Posted on Feb 15, 2017 in Cheryl's Shoebox Blog Over the last few years we have been receiving many pairs of soccer shoes and we have been holding on to them for the right opportunity. For anyone with soccer kids, you know that these shoes are expensive and kids grow out of them yearly! We found our perfect match! Saturday, February 11th Cheryl’s Shoebox had a great day out in a rural colonia of Magisterio with 25 fútbol loving kids. The program not only teaches the beloved sport of Mexico but also focuses on after school education including English class to every child! This soccer program is sponsored by Community Impact and assisted by Pastor Luis. Cheryl’s Shoebox is happy to announce we will be continuing to support this program throughout the year and all 75 children in the program. We would like to thank our volunteers for the day and hope you had as much fun as we did. El Colorado After School Program

We put new tennis shoes on the 112 students in the after school program located in the colonia of El Colorado, which is in an area out past Ixtapa. This program was started by Pastor Ric Lehman and CompasioNet. They have a wonderful teacher there Lore, who works beautifully with these children. We were greeted by the children in English saying “Hello how are you? We are fine thank you” and singing of the ABC song. It was a wonderful presentation to welcome and thank us. We then proceeded to fitting them with new tennis shoes. They were all delighted! Thank you to our volunteers of the day Debbie Doucette, and Sterling O’Ran. Back to School with Cheryl’s Shoebox – Progeso , Del Villar, Lomas de Enmedio and Parota.

Posted on Oct 27, 2016 in Cheryl's Shoebox Blog On Thursday September 22nd, Cheryl’s Shoebox visited the colonia’s of Progeso and Del Villar. This trip we were able to supply backpacks and school supplies to 40 secondary and 50 primary Students. 90 School Kits and Back Packs in Total!   The following Saturday we we scheduled 2 more events in the colonia’s Lomas de Enmedio and Parota distributing an additional 110  School Kits!   Pastor Mario Stantillan and Ron Almsted and their Out Reach Program has been an absolute joy to work with and we look forward to continuing this relationship.   Thanks to all our supporters who make Cheryl’s Shoebox Possible!   A big thank you to our volunteers: Dean McConkey, Greg and Doris Anderson, Gary Spark, Giorgia Fara, Sterling O’Ran, Adam Bishop, and Giorgia Fara. Back To School with the Benito Juárez School in Chimo

Posted on Aug 25, 2016 in Cheryl's Shoebox Blog Wednesday August 24th, 2016 the team at Cheryl’s Shoebox packed up a boat and delivered Shoes and Backpacks to the students of the Benito Juárez School in Chimo, Jalisco. This is our second year working with the Benito Juárez School and it was great to return and see the kids flourishing. This trip we were able to supply 50 primary students and 20 Secondary students with proper school shoes. An extra donation of 50 back packs was also made by Robina Oliver (La Sirena Reina, Puerto Vallarta – Quality Swimwear for Women) and the kids were overwhelmed. We will continue to work with the teachers and the principle  of  Benito Juárez to see how we can assist the school in ways other than shoes. Special thanks to the team at Cheryl’s Shoebox,  all our supporters over the years who donated shoes and school supplies as well as Artemio (Sherif of Chimo) for helping organize our visits.
